Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah took to social media to denounce a piece of disinformation mimicking a report from a Kannada newspaper. The fake newspaper clipping, which is being circulated on social media, claims that CM Siddaramaiah lashed out at the party workers who argued to intensify the efforts to garner the support of Hindu voters.

The fake news carries the headline “Don’t Need Hindu Vote, Only Need Muslim Votes: Siddaramaiah”, which seems intended to spread misinformation among Hindu voters about the party and the chief minister. Siddaramaiah, in a post on X, slammed both the BJP and JDS, alleging that miscreants supported by these parties were the creators of this fake news.

The Chief Minister said, “The miscreants supported by the unholy alliance of BJP-JDS have fabricated a piece of disinformation mimicking a report from the Kannada newspaper. This fake news is loaded with content that stirs up communal tensions and has been widely disseminated across social media platforms.”

“I have already lodged a complaint with the police department about this. We have information about the vested interests behind this and the police will take necessary action,” he said.

The CM further added that “Resorting to such deceitful tactics to win elections, rather than engaging with political opponents through fair and honest means, shows the intellectual bankruptcy of the BJP and JDS. A party that has ruled the country for 10 years should not have stooped to such a despicable level of manufacturing fake news to win an election.”

He also warned against believing such fake news and stress the need to be equally cautious before spreading it.

“We will root out the creators of such fake news and those backing them through legal means,” Siddaramaiah vowed.
