Bengaluru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will meet with Primary Education Minister B. C. Nagesh and senior officers on Wednesday June 22 to discuss former Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda’s concerns over alleged discrepancies in the revision of school textbooks. The former PM had written a letter to the CM on June 20 urging him to reject the books revised by Text Revision Committee Chairman Rohit Chakrathirtha because the books’ mistakes could not be corrected at this stage.

Deve Gowda stated in his letter to CM, “Innumerable mistakes in textbooks, as well as injustice done by it, cannot be corrected simply by adding a corrigendum or printing separate pages. This year, revised textbooks should be withdrawn and books revised by 27 committees led by Baraguru Ramachandrappa should be used.

He also said that the head of the textbook revision committee insulted Rashtrakavi Kuvempu’s ‘Naadageethe’ (state anthem). “Kuvempu’s photograph has been removed from a chapter in a social science textbook, the contributions of the Siddaganga and Adichunchanagiri mutts have been removed, and the reference to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar as the architect of the Indian constitution was dropped,” he said.

“His suggestions will be seriously considered, and we will decide on what possible measures could be taken,” the CM said.
