The Congress’s Election Committee convened at the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee office to deliberate on candidate nominations for the upcoming Lok Sabha election. Chaired by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, the meeting discussed recommendations from various party members, including district ministers, observers, and survey teams. Shivakumar stated that the committee reached a consensus on several issues and decided to reconvene in Delhi for further discussions, including additional names suggested by the survey team.
Each Lok Sabha seat in Karnataka has been assigned a minister in charge to compile a report on potential candidates. Among those present at the meeting were AICC general secretary RS Surjewala, Chief Minister Siddaramaih, and DK Shivakumar.
In a simultaneous development, the Congress announced its candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, and Telangana. AICC treasurer Ajay Maken, along with Rajya Sabha MPs Syed Naseer Hussain and GC Chandrashekhar, will contest from Karnataka. Meanwhile, Ashok Singh will represent Madhya Pradesh, and Renuka Chowdhury and Anil Kumar Yadav will contest from Telangana. Sonia Gandhi, the Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson, filed her nomination for the Rajya Sabha election from Rajasthan, accompanied by party leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Ashok Gehlot, and Govind Singh Dotasra.
Additionally, the Congress released its initial list of candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha Biennial elections. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge approved Sonia Gandhi’s candidature from Rajasthan and Dr. Akhilesh Prasad Singh’s from Bihar, as per an official release from the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
