Bengaluru: All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Rahul Gandhi succeeded in convincing the JDS leadership to contest in fewer seats than what they demanded for. As per the agreement between the JDS and the Congress leaders emerged during the breakfast meeting between Gowda and RaGa, the Congress will contest in 21 seats while the JDS in seven seats.
According to the senior Congress leaders, an announcement in this regard will be made in a day or two.
List of constituencies where the JDS will contest include Hassan, Mandya, Shivamogga, Vijayapura, Uttara Kannada, Bengaluru (North). The seventh constituency will be either Tumakuru or Mysuru.
According to a Congress leader, if Vijayapura, Uttara Kannada and Mysuru constituencies are allocated to the JDS, it will be a cakewalk for the opposition BJP.
“The JDS should have been given four seats. In other constituencies it will be a cakewalk for the BJP,” said a Congress leader.
It can be recalled that the JDS was demanding 12 seats initially. Later it came down to 10 and now it has agreed for seven.
