Bengaluru: A 40-year-old convict committed suicide along with his minor son at his rented house in Bagaluru on Sunday. The police have identified the deceased as Sridhar Murthy (40), and his son Srivishnu (13). Sridhar Murthy, who was convicted for life, got parole three days ago after serving eight years.
The police said that Murthy was convicted for killing his brother-in-law over a family row. On Saturday, Sridhar went to his in-laws house and returned home with his son Srivishnu after dinner.
According to the police, the incident came to light when neighbours, suspicion of the lack of activity in the house, went to check and found both father and son hanging from the ceiling of the living room. The Bagaluru police have registered a case of unnatural death and efforts are on to ascertain the reason for the suicide.
1,100 kg fake detergent powder seized
The Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths on Sunday raided a private chemical manufacturing unit at RMV Extension and seized 1,100 kg of fake detergent powder which was being sold under reputed brand names. Based on a tip-off, the police raided the unit and arrested Vishwanath Patil (27), a resident of Kariyappa Layout. He hails from Haveri. The police have estimated the worth of seized contraband products at around Rs 1.20 lakh.
A case has been registered at Sanjaynagar police station.
