Bengaluru: In an unprecedented crackdown, the city police, led by commissioner Alok Kumar, carried out a night-long nakabandi (patrolling using checkpoints) across the city on Saturday. During the drive, the police seized over 500 vehicles and nabbed over 499 suspects in connection with various offences.
According to sources in the police department, the crackdown was taken up following complaints that miscreants target motorists and the general public during night time.
Taking to Twitter early in the morning, compol Alok Kumar wrote: “Bangalore City Police conducted search and nakabandi operations last night all over the city and secured 499 suspects and seized more than 500 vehicles. The operation was aimed to curb the illegal activities and offences being committed during night hours. (sic)”

As expected, the city residents responded positively to the crackdown. “All these days, the police were patrolling only in the day time. In the city outskirts, the problem was very serious. Police finally woke up,” said Rajesh Jahagirdar, a city resident.
