Bengaluru: In a unique wealth-out-of-waste attempt, the Bengaluru police used confiscated silencers to make signages promoting safe driving.

Out of the 188 altered silencers that were seized by the Kumaraswamy Layout cops, around 140 were turned into these unique sign boards. These boards, urging commuters to obey traffic rules, have been placed along the NICE Road, Kanakapura Junction and near the KSIT College on Kanakapura Road.

These altered silencers were seized by the cops based on complaints of nuisance filed by members of the public. The drives have also been set into motion to identify violators and book them under section 190 (2) of the Motor Vehicle Act. As on October 31 this year, 8,256 cases were registered as opposed to 5,053 cases in 2017. As there has been an increase in these violations, the offenders are now being charged Rs 2,000 as fine along with confiscation of the component. Previously, the offence attracted a fine of a mere Rs 100.

The police have planned to put up more of these boards within their jurisdiction, in the next few days.
