Bengaluru: Generally, marriages are performed either in temples or beautiful halls. While some discard elaborate wedding programmes and opt for a simple wedding, Belagavi became witness to a rather unique wedding event.
Sending out a strong message, a couple tied the knot at the Sadashivanagar graveyard of Belagavi, on Thursday evening. Young lovers from Jamboti of Belagavi taluk-Balakrishna and Rekha entered a new life in the presence of tens of progressive thinkers. Manava Bandutva Vedike headed by former minister Satish Jarakiholi had facilitated the marriage of the two who are from different communities.
Speaking on the occasion, Satish Jarakiholi said there is an urgent need of spreading the rational thoughts among the public. “We have conducted all kinds of programmes in the graveyard. But for the first time we are holding a marriage,” he said.
He gave Rs.50,000 to the newly married couple.
Speaking on the occasion newlywed couple Balakrishna and Rekha said that they wanted to send a message to the society. “As we belong to a different caste, families are opposing the marriage. But we don’t believe in the caste system,” they said.
