Bengaluru: A court in the city quashed the bail plea of Mohammed Nalapad, son of Shantinagar MLA Harris, accused for the inhumane assault on Vidwath, son of businessman Loknath.

The 63rd Sessions Court of the city considered the bail plea of Mohammed Nalapad for trial on May 29. After hearing the argument of advocate Usman, who represents the accused and M S Shyamsundar, the public prosecutor who represents Vidwath, the court had reserved its order till May 30.

The court declared the judgement on Wednesday and quashed the bail plea. The court said that the accused was influential enough and as evidence was available against the accused Nalapad in medical reports, it was impossible to grant him bail.

Earlier, during the hearing, Public prosecutor Shyamsundar said, “There is no rule that bail can be granted after the submission of the chargesheet. The accused is very powerful to influence the witnesses. Another accused in the case Krishna is still in hiding. So, the court should not grant bail to the accused.”

Advocate Usman argued that public prosecutor was misleading the court. As the chargesheet had been submitted with the statement of the witnesses, the accused could not influence the witnesses, he said.

With this Nalapad’s stay in jail has been extended. He has been in jail for the past 99 days.
