Bengaluru: Criminal cases will be filed against those spreading false information on electronic voting machines (EVMs), warned state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sanjeev Kumar.
Divulging information on state election commission’s preparedness for the ensuing assembly elections, SEC Sanjeev Kumar said, a total of 73,850 EVMs will be employed this time. EVMs have arrived from the states of Jharkhand, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. A total of 40,000 EVMs have arrived from Uttar Pradesh alone, CEO Kumar added.
There should not be any ambiguity over machines received from UP and Gujarat and if there are attempts to spread false information on EVMs, criminal cases will be filed against such people, CEO Sanjeev Kumar warned. The candidate can raise objection in case of any discrepancy observed but action will be taken, if allegations are false, he stated.
EVMs have been incorporated with a feature, where each voter gets seven second duration to confirm the status after casting his ballot. Each EVM will be subjected to a test by casting first 50 votes prior to polling, the CEO clarified.
Final electoral rolls are ready and the state has 4,96,56,059 voters in total out of which 2,51,79,219 are men and 2,44,72,288 women. A total of 15,56,141 new voters have been in the electoral rolls, while 2,73,213 sought changes and 9,17,398 voters have been deleted , CEO Sanjeev Kumar said divulging statistical information.
