Bengaluru: Two software engineers lost Rs. 50,000 each after their debit cards were stolen at a badminton tournament in Mahadevapura on October 1.

CCTV footage showed an unidentified man sitting next to the spot where one of the engineers, Rajeshwar Rao, had kept his bag. “It shows the accused, who was posing as a member of the audience, taking the card and walking out of the sports centre,” said a police officer.

According to the police, Rao realised what had happened when he got a message from his bank saying Rs. 50,000 had been withdrawn from his account. He blocked the card before rushing to the police station, where he was asked to submit a copy of the bank statement and CCTV footage.

Back at the centre, he met Hari Kishore, a software engineer whose debit card had also been stolen and Rs. 50,000 withdrawn from his account.

Both of them have a lodged a complaint in Mahadevapura police station.
