Bengaluru: After Karnataka started releasing water bowing to Supreme Court order, former Prime Minister HD Devegowda conducted an aerial survey to take stock of the water situation in various dams in southern parts of the state on September 11.
He boarded a helicopter at Jakkur aerodrome in the morning and is likely to visit Harangi, Hemavathi , Kabini and KRS dams before returning to Bengaluru in the evening .
Talking to reporters he said,we are not intelligent like people of Tamilandu. The survey being taken up with good intention and will suggest future course of action to the government after the survey.
Our state is facing drinking water problem where as TN is demanding water for their crops. PM was apprised of the situation during the recent meeting and if the need arises he will visit Cauvery basin areas in TN, former PM confirmed.
HD Devegowda said, the farmers at both end should not suffer and said there is no point in blaming Fali Nariman .He admitted that he suggested releasing Cauvery water to TN after apex court verdict.
During his survey he is likely to discuss the ground water situation with officials and experts.
