Bengaluru: In a major relief to the people of the state, the Karnataka Police has permitted food supermarkets and grocery stores to function round the clock during the coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown.
A decision in this regard was taken following complaints of panic buying and long queues in front of grocery shops across the state. To ensure that the people do not stand in long queues and risk getting infected with any diseases, the police have now decided to allow grocery stores and supermarkets that sell food and food articles to run 24×7.
This means that all supermarkets which sell ready-to-eat food items and food articles, and grocery stores will be allowed to remain open 24 hours a day.
This order was issued by none other than DG-IGP Praveen Sood himself, through his official Twitter handle DGP KARNATAKA (@DgpKarnataka).
“For the convenience of citizens grocery shops and supermarkets seeking food articles can be open 24*7 all over the state. Cooperate with police by avoiding crowding,” he wrote, putting lakhs of people’s minds at ease.

He also added patients requiring medical attention are allowed to go to and from hospitals without the need for a curfew pass.
It can be recalled that on Wednesday, several districts had declared that essential items would be delivered to the people’s doorsteps. It was announced that the public would no longer be allowed to exit their homes as many people were witnessed leaving their homes, in violation of the lockdown orders issued on Tuesday, March 24, to roam the streets.
