Bengaluru: The state police chief has ordered that a call detail record (CDR) should be obtained only after getting permission from senior officers. The move comes after complaints that the facility was being used by some policemen for personal reasons.
The police are solving most of the cases by analyzing the call detail record, however in an order restricting the use of such facilities in the police department, the DG & IGP has stated that the reason for seeking the CDR has to be compulsorily mentioned in the request letter.
According to the order, the staff seeking the CDR of any person should submit an application along with the case details and the reasons for seeking the CDR. Besides, the request has to be attested by the inspector of the station concerned, ACP/DySP and the DCP/SP.
The request will then reach the technical wing, who will take a photocopy of the request, and then give the CDR. Also, all officers should maintain records of the CDR they have sought and also submit a report to the police chief once in every month. The order has been made to ensure that the facility is not misused.
Earlier, the police used to approach the technical wing and give the phone number seeking its CDR and get the details. With the introduction of the new system, some policemen feel that there will be a delay in emergency cases where they have to track some numbers immediately.
