Bengaluru: The officials have been instructed to achieve the goal of ensuring direct transfer of grants under various welfare schemes to the beneficiaries and I will personally monitor its implementation, said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

He was speaking after launching the ‘Kalyana Mitra’ helpline for the citizens and a professional capacity building workshop for the officials of the Social Welfare Department.

“The era of change has started, and the days of alibis are over. The Government is doing so much for education and improving the income of the weaker sections. The Social Welfare Department should work with mercurial dynamism. It is the work that will uplift these communities not mere slogans. The funds allocated for the welfare of these sections should reach them without any hitch,” he stressed.

Bommai noted that the people’s hardwork spurs economic growth. The farmers and labour are the main pillars of the economy.  The State Government has drawn up many programmes for the welfare of backward classes as well as SC and ST communities. A 5-year programme has to be formulated for the development of SC/ST communities. An Anchor Bank is being created for the purpose. A grant of Rs. 28,000 Cr has been provided for the welfare of SC and ST communities. Self-employment schemes, Rs. 2 lakh grant for housing, and Rs. 20 lakh grant for purchase of land are being implemented. All these benefits should reach them directly without any hurdles, said Bommai and appreciated the helpline being launched as a very good initiative to serve the beneficiaries.

The welfare of the Dalits and oppressed classes is my objective. They should lead a life of dignity. There will be no compromise in ensuring it, said Bommai. Sending a strong message to the officials of the Department to pull up their socks and resolve to serve the weaker sections with sincerity, Bommai continued, “It is your duty to use the power vested with you for the welfare of these classes. You should have the commitment to deliver the welfare programmes of the Government to the people. The Department should first raise its capacity to realise the objective of the Government,” he affirmed.

Bommai wanted the officials to look at the problems from the perspective of the poor people who approach them to avail the benefits. “We will bring overall changes in administration and reduce the layers of the decision making system. The Socials Welfare department would be overhauled,” he said.

Though the Government is providing grants, there has been delays in selecting the beneficiaries. Our Government will not tolerate laxity, neglect and non-cooperation in administration, he stressed.

The records should be simplified, ans there is a need for huge changes in coordination among the staff. You should make the scheme simple and deliver them to the beneficiaries in time, he said.

Even 75 years after the country has attained independence, the oppressed classes are still struggling to get social justice. Our Government will never accept negligence and red-tapism, Bommai said
