Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has accused a political conspiracy aimed at undermining him after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) served notice to Kerala-based Jaihind Communications Pvt Ltd, a channel headed by him. The notice, issued on Sunday, seeks details of investments made by Shivakumar in the channel in connection with a disproportionate assets case against the Congress leader.

The Bengaluru unit of the CBI, investigating the case against Shivakumar, has summoned the managing director of Jaihind Communications Pvt. Ltd. to appear on January 11, 2024, along with the necessary documents. Responding to the development, Shivakumar stated that he is prepared for any legal action, including arrest, and questioned why the CBI is issuing notices when they already possess the required documents.

Expressing concerns about a political plot against him, Shivakumar, also the Karnataka Congress unit president, mentioned that some BJP leaders had previously indicated their intent to send him to jail. He urged those making accusations against him to engage in discussions and asserted that there is a larger conspiracy at play.

Maintaining his innocence, Shivakumar emphasized that he has not committed any wrongdoing and is confident about receiving justice. He welcomed any inquiry by the CBI and clarified that the notice was served to his firm, not to him personally.

Addressing the withdrawal of permission for the CBI to prosecute cases against him, Shivakumar highlighted that the state government had handed over the matter to the Lokayukta, even though he did not request it. He expressed willingness to cooperate with the Lokayukta’s investigation when required.

Referring to the ongoing case, Shivakumar criticized the CBI’s incomplete investigation and disputed their claim of having completed 90% of the inquiry. Regarding the notice, he stated that he does not have to go to the CBI and indicated readiness to face legal consequences if necessary. Shivakumar, accused in a money laundering case, had spent 51 days in Tihar Jail in 2019. The Karnataka government recently withdrew CBI’s permission to probe cases against him, citing non-compliance with the law.
