Bengaluru: On Saturday, Karnataka recorded 201 new cases of COVID-19 and reported one additional coronavirus-related fatality within the last 24 hours, according to a health department bulletin. The state’s total active cases now stand at 833, with the death toll surpassing 10 due to the recent surge in cases.

The bulletin highlighted that in the past day, 60 patients had been discharged, and a total of 7,060 tests were conducted, comprising 549 RTPCR and 1,511 Rapid Antigen tests. The Positivity Rate is at 2.84%, and the case fatality rate is reported as 0.49%. Bengaluru Urban district witnessed the highest number of tests, with 69 positive cases out of 2,095 tests conducted.

The deceased, a 74-year-old individual in Mysuru, exhibited symptoms of breathlessness and had comorbidities, as stated in the bulletin.
Dakshina Kannada (DK) district reported 13 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the total active cases in the district to 25. Health department sources disclosed that 348 people were tested, and 13 were found infected. Alongside Bengaluru and Mysuru, DK district registered a notable increase in cases. As of Saturday, Karnataka has 833 active cases, with 783 individuals in home isolation and the remaining 50 hospitalized. Among the hospitalized cases, 15 are in ICU, and 35 are admitted to the general ward.

In response to the rising cases and the detection of JN.1 infections in the state, the Karnataka government’s cabinet sub-committee on COVID has issued advisory measures. These include urging the public to wear masks, keeping symptomatic children away from schools, practicing COVID-appropriate behavior like social distancing, isolating for seven days if infected, and providing leave to infected employees. The committee has also decided to administer a “precautionary vaccine” to the elderly and those with comorbidities, acquiring 30,000 doses of the Corbevax vaccine from the Centre for this purpose.
