Bengaluru: Thousands of Congress party workers and supporters of Congress leader D K Shivakumar thronged the Kempegowda International Airport to catch a glimpse of their leader almost 50 days after he was taken into custody by ED officials.

DK Shivakumar was welcomed with a number of garlands and flower bouquets after landing at KIA on Saturday, October 26 noon.

His supporters carried him on their shoulders towards the Gate no. 11 exit.

In spite of police requesting Shivakumar’s supporters not to enter the Sadahalli Gate, which leads to the airport, they barged in and waited near Gate no. 11 to welcome him.

DKShi was then taken in a car on a procession till the Sadahalli Gate where he waved at his supporters from the car’s roof. From there onwards, he got on a roofless truck. He was garlanded with a 600 kg garland made of apples (which was hung to the hooks of a crane).

After a grand welcome at each of the five junctions of the city, he is expected to reach the KPCC office.

The procession consists of various folk artists performing the states’ folk art.

According to recent reports, due to huge traffic congestion, the procession was discontinued and DK Shivakumar is said to be traveling in a car now.

Former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy greeted DKShi and both of them had a conversation for over five minutes.

Meanwhile, celebrations at the KPCC office are also at full swing.

It can be recalled that DKShi was taken into custody on September 3 by Enforcement Directorate officials and later (on orders of the Rose Avenue Special Court, Delhi) was sent to Tihar Jail.
