Bengaluru: Sandalwood actor Duniya Vijay, who has been in the news a lot lately, has been chargesheeted for allegedly assaulting a cop back in May,2016. The charge sheet was filed by the Bengaluru police in connection with the Maasthi Gudi film tragedy of 2016, where Sandalwood actors Uday and Anil lost their lives.

The police, in the 65-page chargesheet submitted to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court in Bengaluru on Saturday, accused the actor of misbehaviour with police personnel and have charged him under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 353 (obstructing police from carrying out their duty).

Vijay was booked by Channammanakere Achukattu Police for obstructing the arrest of Maasthi Gudi producer P Sundar Gowda as he reportedly helped Gowda escape from his residence in the presence of the police, promising to hand him over in a day’s time as Gowda’s mother was allegedly ill. He is also reported to have assaulted an on-duty cop. The actor is at present, out on bail for several cases against him.

In 2016, actors and stunt masters Uday and Anil drowned to death at the Thippagondanahalli reservoir during the shooting of Maasthi Gudi. Duniya Vijay, Uday and Anil had to jump out of a helicopter from a height of 100ft into the water for one of the film’s stunt scenes.

As evidenced in the videos of the incident, though none of the actors knew swimming, only Vijay was given a safety jacket. Vijay was the only one to be rescued after the jump, while Uday and Anil struggled and drowned to death.
