Bengaluru: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Karnataka Congress strongman and former minister D K Shivakumar in connection with an alleged money laundering case.
A senior ED official told IANS: “Shivakumar was arrested on Tuesday evening following his questioning for the fourth time by the agency.”
He said Shivakumar was arrested on charges of money laundering. The official said that Shivakumar was evasive and non-cooperative during questioning by the agency.
The ED is likely to produce DKShi in court late tonight, however, there has been no notification about the time so far.
“He was informed about his arrest yesterday itself. So he attended the ED hearing with a bag of clothes and essential medicines. It is not a surprise,” explained a Congress leader from Bengaluru.
Now that DKShi’s arrest has been confirmed, several senior leaders from the state will be rushing to New Delhi early on Wednesday morning.
D K Shivakumar, the Vokkaliga face of the Congress party, came to prominence when S M Krishna was the Chief Minister between 1999 and 2004. He later became a minister in the Siddaramaiah-led state government (2013-18) and the subsequent H D Kumaraswamy-led government (2018-19).
According to sources, his fall started when the IT department raided on his flat in August 2017 where a huge amount of cash was recovered
