Bengaluru: Jagdish Shettar, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka, who had previously left the BJP to join the Congress before the state assembly elections last year, has now returned to his former party.
Shettar mentioned his extensive history with the BJP as the reason for his return, stating that many of his supporters urged him to rejoin the party.
In the presence of former Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, Union Ministers Bhupender Yadav and Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Karnataka BJP President B Y Vijayendra, and the party’s media head Anil Baluni, the Lingayat leader officially rejoined the BJP.
Sources within the party revealed that Shettar had discussions with Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President J P Nadda, who persuaded him to return to the saffron party. Shettar had left the BJP after being denied a ticket to contest in the assembly elections but ended up losing after joining the Congress. However, he was appointed as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) by the Congress, a position he has now relinquished to rejoin the BJP.
Shettar also commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, expressing his belief that India has grown stronger under his guidance.
