Festival of lights brings darkness in lives of children

Bengaluru: Inspite of several warnings and awareness through public advertisements, children are reportedly injured severely while bursting firecrackers, during the festive season of Diwali. In most of the cases, children have lost their eyesight.

Similar incidents were reported from the ‘Garden City’, where children have lost their eyesight by coming in close contact with the malfunctioned firecrackers.

A 13-year-old girl named Sadika Baanu has lost her eyesight permanently, as said by the doctors. She had gone close to the flower pot to check whether it is lit properly or not. As it suddenly caught fire, she had severely injured her right eye. Sadika Baanu is said to be from a poor family. Her father deals with scrap.

Another 8-year-old girl named Divya from Bommanahalli area was hit by a firecracker on to her right eye. This happened when she had gone to a nearby store. Fortunately, the doctors have said that she was out of danger and the treatments will follow for a couple of days.

Even a 7-year-old boy named Maneesh has been admitted to hospital with injuries caused by firecrackers. The doctors treating him have said that an eye surgery is inevitable.
