Bengaluru: The Congress ministers from city underwent a dressing down session from K C Venugopal, AICC State In-charge on the issue of fixing the gaping potholes in the city failing which, he warned that it might result in a public backlash damaging the winning prospects of the ruling party candidates in the ensuing elections.
After incessant rains lashed the city during the last few days, the city’s infrastructure took a severe beating with clogged stormed water drains paving way to flooding of low lying areas, traffic snarls and gaping potholes. City’s prime locations which are now part of the central district built on lakes by uncontrolled encroachment by land sharks once again showed their existence in areas in and around Koramangala, most affected by rains.
The ministers and MLAs tried taking cover by blaming the previous BJP regime for the current mess. Not convinced by their reply, K C Venugopal asked the ministers to act to prevent Congress votes from drifting towards opposition. Social media has been abuzz with comments against the ruling regime and the problems faced on daily basis by the residents of Bengaluru is a matter of concern, he said.
Huge fund allocation to the tune of Rs 7000 Crore has been made towards the development of Bengaluru, asserted ministers present at the meet to defend themselves but Venugopal in blunt terms said, “action on the ground matters” and added such statements would not solve people’s woes but could only dent the image of the ruling government which had done exceptionally well on most fronts.
The government is likely to be cornered further on the issue during the assembly session at Belagavi,.
Gloomy picture from Mysuru too!
The BJP had protested in Mysuru to expose the gaping potholes in the city by planting saplings and putting up warning signs like “beware of well” ahead! The opposition party vented its anger over the poor quality of works carried out before Dasara on road maintenance by terming it a “white wash.” Many potholes have surfaced on the city roads within few days after the completion of works, exposing the rot in road development and maintenance in city limits.
