Bangaluru: Dense fog at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on Thursday morning led to delays for eight flights due to poor visibility. According to Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), visibility was as low as 50 meters between 5:19 am and 7:40 am, significantly impacting flight operations.
Among the delayed flights were two international flights to Phuket and Dubai, along with domestic flights to Chennai, Goa, Pune, and Nagpur. All flights were delayed by more than 15 minutes.
In December 2020, KIA’s south runway was upgraded to handle CAT-IIIB operations, a navigation system that supports landings in low-visibility conditions. However, the north runway is still under upgrade and operates as a CAT-I runway.
