Severe fog disrupted operations at Chennai Airport on Wednesday morning, forcing two international flights to be diverted to Bengaluru.
An Air Asia flight from Kuala Lumpur, carrying 152 passengers, was scheduled to land in Chennai at 7:25 am. However, poor visibility prompted its diversion to Bengaluru. Passengers bound for Chennai were stranded in Bengaluru, with the flight rescheduled to reach Chennai in the evening. Meanwhile, passengers flying to Kuala Lumpur from Chennai faced a delay, with their flight now departing at 12:15 am Thursday instead of the originally scheduled 8:05 am.
Similarly, an Emirates flight from Dubai with 254 passengers faced a similar fate. Scheduled to arrive in Chennai at 8:15 am, it was rerouted to Bengaluru. The aircraft returned to Chennai by 12:40 pm and resumed its journey to Dubai at 1:20 pm, causing a delay of over three hours.
Adding to the day’s chaos, a British Airways flight from London encountered a technical issue midair and returned to its origin. Initially scheduled to land in Chennai at 5:30 am, it was delayed by eight hours.
The foggy conditions and unforeseen technical issues left passengers facing significant delays and disrupted travel plans.
