Bengaluru: Former Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai has filed an application in the Bangalore City Civil Court seeking a restraining order against the media to prevent the broadcast of defamatory statements against him. The court is set to issue an order on August 28.

Bommai’s move comes amidst the state government’s reopening of old cases against opposition leaders and investigations into the MUDA scam allegations against the current CM. This has sparked speculation about the motivations behind Bommai’s application.

This is not the first instance of politicians seeking restraining orders against the media. Previously, six ministers from the BJP government applied for similar orders after Ramesh Jarakiholi’s Rasalila CD was exposed. Other politicians, including former CM Sadananda Gowda, have also sought restraining orders in the past.

The court’s decision on Bommai’s application will be closely watched, given the ongoing political developments in the state.
