Bengaluru: In the newly formed NDA Central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, four MPs from Karnataka have found a seat at the table. The new cabinet was also sworn in on Thursday, May 30, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan after Narendra Modi was sworn in as Prime Minister for a second term.
Of the new ministers sworn in on Thursday, four are from the South Indian state of Karnataka. They are MP for Bengaluru North D V Sadananda Gowda, Rajya Sabha MP Nirmala Sitharama, MP for Dharwad Pralhad V Joshi and MP for Belagavi Suresh Angadi.
Sadananda Gowda represents the Vokkaliga community, who usually vote for the JDS and Congress. Nirmala Sitharaman and Pralhad Joshi represent the Brahmin community, while Suresh Angadi represents the Lingayats, the core vote base of the BJP.
Pralhad Joshi is a fourth time MP, former President of the BJP’s Karnataka unit and a member of the RSS. He also served as the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas.
Suresh Angadi previously served as Chairman of the Committee on House which allocates accommodation to Members of Parliament.
Sadananda Gowda was elected for the second time from the prestigious Bangalore North seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. He became the Union Minister for the first time in May 2014 in the NDA-1 government. He is a former Karnataka Chief Minister.
