Namma Bengaluru has yet another reason to be proud with yet another young girl bringing International acclaim at the ripe age of just seventeen. The person we are talking about is Sia Godika who recently came home with a cash prize of $400,000 which she won at an International science video competition.

The Breakthrough Junior Challenge which took place last year in 2023 was mainly an offshoot of the #3 million breakthrough prize foundation. Entitled the Oscars of Science, the contest revolved around concepts of math, physics and the other life sciences, with more than 2,400 participants, from more than 100 countries across the globe.

Participants were awarded based on their innovative thoughts and their ability to communicate them. Founded by Sergey Grin, Mark Zuckerberg, Pricilla Chan, Yurl and Julia Milner and Anni Wojcicki, it is needless to say that the event was a big one.

This gives South Indians all the more reason to celebrate the achievement of Sia at the junior challenge for her presentation, which she named Yamanaka Factors.

The video narrates the story of the Nobel Prize winner Shinya Yamanaka, a role which the young Sia herself plays, taking us through the whole story of cellular reprogramming and how it can be useful to treat degenerative and age related diseases, an inspiration that came from seeing her grandparents battle with cancer and the neurological issues that followed it.

From this, it is clear that Godaki aims to help the generations of the future from such a debilitating disease. Her hard work and contribution through the contest has even awarded her with a well-deserving scholarship of $250,000, while her science teacher gets the remaining $50,000 as her share of the prize.

And it does not end there. It looks like Sia has given her entire school a reason to celebrate as they get a new lab worth $100,000 as a prize. We know the lab is going to be big as this is going to be a design from the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory,

And it looks like talent runs within the Godaki family, with her brother Sanjay being a winner of the same contest six years before. This time, it will be Sia who will be collecting the Breakthrough Prize, as she makes her presence among the many laureates who will also be attending the ceremony at an event in Los Angeles this spring.
