In a horrifying incident that has triggered widespread condemnation in China, a couple has been executed for the appalling act of throwing their two young children out of a high-rise apartment window.
The executed couple, Zhang Bo and his girlfriend Ye Chengchen, committed this gruesome act to start a new family together.
According to reports, Zhang, who had a two-year-old girl and a one-year-old boy from a previous marriage, was influenced by Ye to eliminate them, viewing the children as an “obstacle” to their relationship.
Zhang, who had an extramarital affair with Ye without disclosing his marital status and the existence of his children, divorced his then-wife, Chen Meilin, in February 2020. He was coerced by Ye into committing this unthinkable crime against his children.
The incident occurred in 2020 when Zhang threw his children out of a window from the 15th floor of a high-rise apartment building. Disturbing videos circulated on Chinese social media, depicting a grief-stricken Zhang banging his head on the wall and sobbing uncontrollably after the act.
Initially, when questioned by the police, Zhang claimed to be asleep when the children “fell” and woke up to the commotion downstairs. The children’s mother, Chen, expressed shock and despair upon hearing the devastating news. “The moment I heard my kids were thrown out of the 15th floor by their father and the mistress, I couldn’t find any words to describe my feelings,” she stated.
The calculated premeditation of the crime and the tender age of the victims have sent shockwaves across China. The execution of Zhang and Ye, reportedly carried out by lethal injection more than two years after China’s Supreme Court approved their death sentence, swiftly became a trending topic on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, amassing nearly 200 million views.
