Bengaluru: A seven-member committee headed by Kannada Development Authority (KDA) has recommended to the government to issue an order making it mandatory for elected representatives and government employees to enroll their children in government schools.
The report with 21 recommendations on strengthening of government schools was released by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday. The report was prepared by KDA chairman S.G. Siddaramaiah.
The chief minister said many leaders, legislators and ministers, who speaks a lot on the need to improve quality of education in government schools, send their children to private schools. “Many poor people come to me seeking recommendation for admission of their wards to reputed private schools,” he said.
The committee, to counter admission rush in private pre-nursery schools, has also recommended opening of LKG and UKG classes in government primary and higher primary schools.
The committee has also recommended ensuring teachers free from all kinds of non-teaching work such as census and electoral work to ensure cent per cent attendance of teachers.
The KDA chairman said the teachers should be recruited for all subjects to encourage high pass percentage in government schools.
