Bengaluru: While the Central government celebrates “Hindi Diwas” today, Karnataka’s opposition leaders have taken to Twitter to condemn the move of imposing the Hindi language throughout the country,

Former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy tweeted, “Today, the Central government is celebrating ‘Hindi Diwas’ throughout the country. @naerendramodi, when will you celebrate Kannada language day, which is also one of the official languages mentioned in the Indian Constitution along with Hindi? Remember, Kannadigas are also inclusive of this system #StopHindiImposition #HindiDiwas.”

Opposition leader and former chief minister Siddaramaiah also chimed in tweeting, “Let the false propaganda of Hindi language being the national language, stop. Let it be known, that Hindi is also one among the other 99 official languages like Kannada. Language cannot be nurtured using false information.”

In another tweet he wrote, “Language is like knowledge. It should not be nurtured with pressure or by force, rather love. We are not against the Hindi language, but the pressure of imposing it. I’m also against the celebration of Hindi Diwas #HindiDiwas #HindiImposition.”
