Bengaluru: The union government must ensure that the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) gets back the University Grants Commission (UGC) recognition, opined State Janata Dal (Secular) President and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy.
HDK has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah demanding early recognition by UGC to KSOU.
Around 3 lakh students are denied jobs due to the lack of eligibility following KSOU’s derecognition in 2013 and their future remains uncertain, HDK stated in the letter.
Condemning State Higher Education Minister Basavaraja Rayareddy’s statement hinting at KSOU’s closure, HDK said, “The minister is more concerned about utilising Rs 600 Crore lying in the KSOU coffers.” He has formed a committee to divert those available resources towards construction of buildings at other colleges and institutions, HDK stated objecting the move.
Due to conflicting statements from the state government, the future of the teaching and non-teaching staff is in a quandary, stated HDK and urged the union government to grant UGC recognition to KSOU once again, in his letter.
