Bengaluru’s long-awaited Hebbal Flyover expansion is finally nearing completion and is expected to be open to traffic shortly after August 15, confirmed Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) President N.A. Haris in a recent press briefing. Following state government directives, the project has seen accelerated progress over the past few months.
Haris addressed earlier concerns about delays, stating that the cost overruns have remained minimal. He also announced that BDA has served notices to allottees of 1,600 CA (Civic Amenity) sites with pending dues, offering them a 120-day window. Those who clear the principal within this period will receive an 18% interest waiver.
What’s the project about?
The expansion project aims to convert the narrow two-lane stretch between Kempegowda International Airport and Baptist Hospital into a four-lane corridor. This crucial upgrade is designed to decongest traffic heading toward Mekhri Circle, particularly easing the choke point where traffic from KR Puram merges onto the existing flyover.
Additionally, a new ramp from the Baptist Hospital side is being built for smoother access from KR Puram towards Mekhri Circle. Currently, this junction suffers severe peak-hour congestion — something commuters have long complained about.
Why this project matters
Hebbal Flyover sits at a vital juncture linking Bellary Road, the international airport, and northern routes out of the city. As air traffic and vehicular movement surge, the expanded flyover is expected to cut travel time, enhance safety, and provide lasting traffic relief for thousands.
