Bengaluru: Union defense minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who is being questioned as to why she remained absent during the mayoral election has said that she had more important work connected to the ministry than attending the BBMP mayoral elections.
Speaking to the reporters in the city, she said that BBMP mayor election is not bigger than the ministry works.
“On September 28, I had a meeting of the commanders of all army, navy and air force. It was the surgical strike day also. So, I was not able to attend the mayor election,” she said.
She also hit out at the former union foreign minister Shashi Tharoor over his statement that the BJP is trying to take political benefits out of the Surgical Strike.
“When Kerala was witnessing flood, this man was in Germany. But today he is attacking the BJP,” she said.
