Bengaluru: Hindutva activist Chaitra Kundapura, accused of defrauding a businessman with promises of a BJP ticket worth Rs 5 crore, has been granted bail by the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Bengaluru. Chaitra Kundapura, known for provocative speeches targeting the Muslim community, faced charges related to suspicious financial transactions and false promises of securing a BJP ticket for the Karnataka Assembly elections.

Chaitra Kundapura’s arrest on September 13 stemmed from allegations of deceiving businessman Govind Babu Pujari. The accusations involved assurances of securing a BJP ticket for Pujari in the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections. Chaitra Kundapura faced charges related to suspicious financial transactions from July 2022 to March 2023.

The FIR outlined the suspicion raised by Govind Babu Pujari, who grew wary when Chaitra mentioned that the funds were held by an RSS leader named Vishwanath, who was later found to be non-existent. Chaitra and her associate Gagan Kadur went missing after the incident, prompting the complainant to seek police intervention. Gagan Kadur, the BJYM secretary in Chikkamagaluru, remains at large.

The complainant claimed to have handed over Rs 1.5 crore to a seer named Abhinava Halasri, head pontiff of the Halashri Math in Vijayanagara. Halasri was arrested in Odisha and obtained a gag order against defamatory media reportage. Chaitra, post-arrest, hinted at disclosing the involvement of prominent leaders in the fraud upon the seer’s arrest.

Bail Conditions:

The court has granted bail to Chaitra Kundapura and her associate Srikanth under specific conditions, including the submission of two sureties and a Rs 2 lakh bond each. The case has attracted attention due to its political implications and allegations of fraudulent activities within the Hindutva activist circle.
