BENGALURU: Uber has launched Uber Moto Women, a pioneering service in Bengaluru offering women-only bike rides. This new service connects female riders with female drivers, aiming to provide a safe, affordable, and convenient transport option while empowering women drivers with flexible earning opportunities.

Designed with input from women riders and drivers, Uber Moto Women addresses key safety concerns and mobility needs, offering a secure environment for those who prefer traveling with female drivers. Bike taxis, which have grown rapidly in urban India, are an essential part of first- and last-mile connectivity, with Bengaluru alone witnessing over 1 million bike taxi rides monthly.

Safety at the Forefront

Uber Moto Women is equipped with advanced safety features to ensure a safer ride for women. Riders can share trip details with up to five trusted contacts for real-time tracking, while features like anonymized phone numbers and addresses safeguard privacy. The RideCheck feature monitors irregularities, such as long stops or route deviations, offering proactive support when needed. Additionally, women riders and drivers have access to Uber’s 24×7 Safety Helpline for priority assistance.

Empowering Female Drivers

The bike taxi market in India has immense potential for generating livelihood opportunities, with estimates suggesting that 5.4 million jobs could be created. However, female participation in the ride-hailing industry remains low. Uber Moto Women aims to encourage more women to drive by offering flexible hours, short trips, and a user-friendly platform. Drivers can also opt out of accepting female-only rides, providing them with further flexibility.

Studies show that ride-hailing services like Uber Moto Women have the potential to increase women’s workforce participation in India by 6% by 2028. With safety being a top priority, 75% of women prefer ride-hailing over other modes of transport, while nearly one in three use bike taxis monthly.

Starting today, Uber Moto Women will be available across major parts of Bengaluru, marking a significant step toward improving safety and economic opportunities for women in the city.
