Bengaluru: “BJP leaders called me anti-Hindu because I organised the birth anniversary of Tipu Sultan,” said former chief minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday, October 7.
He was addressing the Okalipuram Residents Welfare Association here on Sunday and speaking about the various programmed initiated by the government under his leadership, for the benefit of people of all religions.
Stating that he is not an atheist and his family visit temples and worships Hindu deities, he said, “My opinion differs from religions where people are not treated equally or respected. That does not mean that I am against any religion.” Speaking about the issue relating to Tipu Sultan, he said, “Tipu was not anti-Hindu. He gave a high status to his Diwan Poornayya. He also pawned his children for the sake of the state. We also celebrated leaders like Vishwakarma and Kittur Rani Chennamma, among others. Was that also anti-Hindu?” he asked.
