BENGALURU: After several cool and cloudy days with mild showers, Bengaluru is set to experience a spell of heavy rainfall this week. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast intense rain across the city starting Tuesday, 22 October, with the wet spell likely to persist till Friday, 25 October. A yellow alert has been issued for the same period, warning residents of possible disruptions.

Mild and cloudy start to the week

The weekend and the first two days of the week are expected to remain pleasant, with a generally cloudy sky and light to moderate rainfall until Monday. According to IMD data, Bengaluru recorded a maximum temperature of 29.4°C and a minimum of 20.6°C in the last 24 hours, accompanied by 7.8 mm of rainfall, indicating the onset of post-monsoon showers.

Day temperatures are projected to hover around 29–30°C, while nights will stay cool at 20–21°C. Humidity levels are expected to remain between 65–85%, adding a slightly muggy but comfortable feel typical of the city’s October climate.

Heavy rain forecast from Tuesday

The IMD’s seven-day forecast indicates that heavy rain will lash the city between October 22 and 25, with each day likely to bring intense spells. The weather office has placed a “Heavy Rainfall” alert for four consecutive days, cautioning residents about possible waterlogging, traffic congestion, and low visibility in several areas.

The forecast states: “Generally cloudy sky with heavy rain” from Tuesday onwards, as moisture-laden winds from the southwest continue to impact southern Karnataka. Maximum temperatures are likely to stay around 30°C, while minimums will hover near 20°C throughout the week.

City braces for disruptions

Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly, especially during evening hours when downpours could coincide with peak traffic. Past instances of heavy rain in the city have often led to flooding in low-lying areas, traffic snarls, and fallen trees.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the Disaster Management Authority are expected to keep emergency response teams on standby. Citizens have been urged to avoid waterlogged zones and to report incidents of tree falls or blocked drains through helplines.

Pleasant interlude before the downpour

For now, Bengaluru residents can enjoy the next two days of cloudy skies and mild showers before the heavier spells begin. The IMD’s extended outlook suggests that the rain intensity may decrease gradually over the weekend, providing a brief respite as the post-monsoon season settles in.
