Bengaluru: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather warning for Karnataka, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls across several districts this week. While Coastal Karnataka is expected to remain calm, both North and South Interior Karnataka have been placed under a yellow alert for the next two days, indicating the likelihood of moderate weather disturbances.

Bengaluru weather: Pleasant but wet weekend ahead

Bengaluru’s weather on Saturday, October 4, is expected to remain cloudy with light to moderate rainfall throughout the day. According to IMD forecasts, the minimum temperature is likely to hover around 21°C, while the maximum will touch 27°C, offering residents a mild and comfortable weekend despite intermittent showers.

The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) has predicted scattered rainfall with strong winds across multiple districts over the next few days. Sunrise in the city was recorded at 6:09 AM, with sunset expected at 6:09 PM.

Coastal Karnataka: Calm conditions, no major warnings

Unlike the interior regions, Coastal Karnataka is expected to experience relatively stable weather. The IMD’s seven-day forecast (October 4–10) shows no major warnings for the coastal belt.

Cities such as Mangaluru, Udupi, and Karwar are likely to see partly cloudy skies with the possibility of isolated light showers, but no heavy rainfall or thunderstorms are predicted. Notably, no marine advisories or warnings for fishermen have been issued during this period, indicating calm sea conditions.

North Interior Karnataka: Thunderstorms and lightning predicted

The IMD has placed North Interior Karnataka under a yellow alert on October 4 and 5, cautioning residents about possible thunderstorms, lightning, and squall activity.

Districts expected to be affected include Belagavi, Ballari, Kalaburagi, Raichur, and Koppal, where gusty winds and lightning strikes are likely to occur.
Farmers and local residents have been advised to avoid open areas during lightning, unplug electrical appliances, and adhere to safety measures issued by IMD and local authorities.

Meteorologists have indicated that weather conditions are expected to stabilise from October 6 onwards, as rainfall intensity decreases and wind patterns normalise.

South Interior Karnataka: Continued storm alerts till October 6

Similar weather conditions have been forecast for South Interior Karnataka, where Bengaluru, Mysuru, Tumakuru, Mandya, and Chikkamagaluru districts are likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning from October 4 to 6, 2025.

Residents are urged to stay cautious, especially during evening hours when thunderstorms are expected to peak. Strong wind gusts and brief power disruptions may occur in some areas due to lightning strikes and tree falls.

However, relief is on the horizon as weather models indicate a gradual improvement from October 7, with “No Warning” status issued by the IMD for both North and South Interior Karnataka from October 7 to 10, 2025.

Advisory for residents and farmers

Authorities have recommended that citizens stay updated through IMD’s Nowcast alerts, which provide short-term warnings via SMS and online updates.
Farmers have also been advised to delay outdoor work during thunderstorm hours and secure farm equipment to avoid lightning-related damage.

The IMD has reiterated that yellow alerts are issued to caution the public about weather conditions that could cause inconvenience but are not severe enough to warrant red or orange warnings.

Conclusion

While much of Karnataka is expected to witness active monsoon-like conditions in the first week of October, the overall forecast suggests no major threat of flooding or severe storms. The IMD’s timely alerts aim to help residents and farmers prepare for short-term disruptions, ensuring public safety during the state’s transitional weather phase.
