Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Boeing India Engineering and Technology Centre (BIETC) in Bengaluru, emphasizing the potential for India to rapidly establish an aircraft manufacturing ecosystem. This facility, the largest outside the US, will focus on research and development. PM Modi expressed confidence that India won’t have to wait long for a Boeing aircraft fully designed and manufactured in the country.
At the event attended by senior Boeing executives, PM Modi highlighted the need to align international companies’ growth with India’s progress. He emphasized the robust network of MSMEs, a vast talent pool, and a government supportive of ‘Make in India,’ creating a favorable environment for various sectors.
Built at a cost of ₹1,600 crore on a 43-acre plot, BIETC is expected to become a cornerstone for partnerships with startups and the government ecosystem. While Boeing didn’t disclose the employment details, it currently employs over 6,000 people in India across its various centers.
PM Modi also launched the Boeing Sukanya Programme, aiming to encourage more girls to enter India’s aviation sector. The program focuses on providing opportunities for girls and women to acquire critical skills in STEM fields for aviation jobs.
Boeing has witnessed increased interest in its jets in India, the world’s fastest-growing aviation market. Recently, the company received orders for 150 737 MAX narrow-body jets from Akasa Air, the country’s youngest carrier. Boeing has an alliance with Tata Group for producing AH-64 Apache helicopter fuselages and 737 aircraft vertical fin structures.
