Bengaluru: A young Indian woman’s candid reflection on how her modest first job in Bengaluru brought her more happiness than her high-paying career in Dubai has struck a chord with thousands online. Shared on Instagram by Seema Purohit, the heartfelt video has gone viral, drawing wide appreciation from netizens who found it “painfully relatable.”
First salary and simple joys
In her video, posted with the caption “Life gave me lemons, and I’m here to rant about it”, Purohit recalls her first job in Bengaluru, where she earned ₹18,000 a month. Despite the modest paycheck, she described the joy it brought her.
“Sirf ₹18,000 salary thi meri Bangalore mein, meri first job. Aur jab mujhe apni salary mili na, main apne aap ko duniya ki sabse ameer ladki manti thi,” she said, adding that she felt like the richest woman in the world at the time.
She explained how that income was sufficient to pay her PG rent, enjoy street shopping, relish canteen meals, go clubbing every weekend, and still save a few thousand rupees. “Apni salary se khush, apni life se khush… I was the happiest woman on the planet,” she added.
Life in Dubai feels less content
Contrasting her past with her present, Purohit revealed that though she now earns a far higher salary in Dubai, the contentment she once had is missing.
“Aaj ₹18,000 se kai zyada kama rahi hu, Dubai mein hu, but still utni khush nahi hu jitni tab thi,” she admitted, pointing to how the pursuit of higher pay has left her questioning her happiness.
Her reflection highlights a growing sentiment among young professionals who often struggle to balance financial success with emotional well-being when working abroad.
Netizens call it relatable
The video quickly spread across social media, with users sharing their own experiences.
One user commented, “Totally relatable! The feeling of belongingness, work-life balance, passion ye sab kab fade ho jata he… koshish karte he fir bhi nai sambhal pate kabhi kabhi!”
Another agreed, saying, “Dubai me to hu… lekin Dubai mere ko achchi nahi lagi.”
Others echoed the sentiment with comments such as “Exactly same feeling with me” and “True hain, Dubai mein jitna bhi salary ho kam hain.”
Conclusion
Seema Purohit’s post has resonated because it reflects a universal struggle—finding balance between financial growth and personal happiness. For many, her words served as a reminder that fulfilment is often found in simple beginnings, rather than in high-paying but isolating jobs abroad.
