An interreligious couple was publicly assaulted and had their heads shaved in half by the woman’s relatives in Indiranagar Layout, Kanakapura taluk, on Saturday. Five of the seven accused have been arrested, police said.

The incident occurred around 5.30 pm when the woman, Asin, and her partner, Mahesh, a fisherman, were at a friend’s residence. Asin, who has been separated from her husband for six months, was reportedly in a relationship with Mahesh.

Relatives, including a woman, allegedly dragged the couple out of the house, assaulted them with slippers, and forcibly shaved their heads in public. Eyewitnesses alerted the police, who intervened and took the couple to the station.
