Bengaluru: The number of Black Fungus cases in the State is reaching 4,000, with 441 deaths reported in the last three and a half months. Thursday, August 19 marked the 100th day since the first Black fungus case was reported in the State.
According to the sources, the treatment of fungus, however, is yet to be included in the Ayushman Bharat Arogya Karnataka scheme.
It was on May 10, Bengaluru reported the first report of Black Fungus. By the end of May, 1,250 persons had been infected and 41 succumbed to the virus.
However, thousand of people were infected with the fungus in June and July. On Wednesday August 18, the total number of infections had risen to 3,836.
According to doctors, 15 to 20 cases are reported every week. Sources stated that over 2,062 patients have had eye surgeries, with 62 more yet to be done. 1,819 of those affected have recovered from the virus, while 1,148 have been hospitalised.
