Bengaluru: Mayor G Padmavathi on Saturday announced that KR Market would be modernised at an estimate cost of Rs 28 crore by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
Speaking with media persons after participating in cleaning programme at KR Market, Mayor Padmavathi said that KR Market was one of the heritage buildings in the city and the care would be taken to retain its structure while modernising it. “The four entrances of the KR Market would be named after Mysore King and Queen. I will discuss with Minister for Bengaluru Development and Town Planning K J George on the possibilities of connecting KR Market with Namma Metro train service,” the mayor said.
The mayor advised the businessmen in the market not to block the pathway thus causing inconvenience to the people. “I have marked three feet space in front of the shops in the market. The businessmen should not put up vegetables, fruits or other commodities beyond the three feet space of their respective shops. The BBMP staffs will collect penalty from those who encroach the pathway,” she said.
She directed the BBMP staffs to provide lighting in cellar of the market by fixing around 100 LED bulbs. “I want the BBMP staffs to ensure dustbins in front of all shops in the market. The BBMP staffs should collect Rs 100 penalty from the shop-owners who fail to keep dustbins in front of their shops,” she said.
