Bengaluru: In response to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) call for the immediate release of detained karsevak Srikanth Poojari and the suspension of the arresting police inspector, Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwara firmly stated on Thursday that the government would not comply with the BJP’s demands.
Addressing the media, Parameshwara questioned the rationale behind yielding to what he deemed as unjustified demands from the BJP. He maintained that the police had acted within the bounds of the law and emphasized that the officer involved had not acted with any bias. Criticizing the BJP’s attempts to associate criminal activities with a particular religious identity, he remarked, “Theirs is an unjustified demand. BJP is attributing Hinduness to criminals as well.”
Furthermore, the Home Minister asserted that the government was well-equipped to handle protests and warned against any attempts to disrupt law and order. Acknowledging the BJP’s right to protest and make demands as the Opposition party, Parameshwara emphasized the importance of respecting the law. In response to the BJP’s ultimatum of a protest on January 9, if Poojari was not released and charges against him were not dropped, Parameshwara reiterated that everyone, including himself, was bound by the law and must adhere to it.
