Bengaluru: The Karnataka government on Friday promoted two Indian Police Service (IPS) officers of the 1995 batch to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP) following its annual review process.

Officers elevated to DGP rank

Umesh Kumar, currently serving as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) in the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), has been promoted and posted as DGP (Recruitment).

Arun Chakravarthy J, who is ADGP and Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation, has also been elevated to the DGP rank. He will continue to serve in his current position.

Government review and postings

The promotions were made as part of the state government’s annual review of senior police officers, aimed at recognising experience and ensuring effective leadership in the Karnataka Police.

Officials stated that the appointments will help strengthen administrative and operational efficiency across the state police departments.

Background on the officers

Both officers belong to the 1995 IPS batch and have extensive experience in policing, administrative functions, and leadership roles across various units in Karnataka. Their elevation to DGP is expected to contribute to the strategic management of law enforcement and state security initiatives.
