Bengaluru: Film producer and director Kavita Lankesh has been appointed as the new president of the Film Industry for Rights and Equality (FIRE). She has been appointed in the place of Priyanka Upendra who had quit the president post on Thursday.
FIRE organisation has extended its full support to actress Shruthi Hariharan in her MeToo allegations against senior actor Arjun Sarja.
FIRE organisation was set up two years ago by actor AHIMSA Chetan of Aa Dinagalu fame and Priyanka Upendra with the idea of ensuring gender equality in the Kannada film industry, which is popularly called as Sandalwood.
But Priyanka Upendra quit the organisation on Thursday against its decision to support Shurthi Hariharan in the MeToo movement.
Now Kavita Lankesh has taken charge as the new president.
Kavita Lankesh is the daughter of well known Kannada writer, journalist late P Lankesh. She has won several awards for her offbeat movies including Deveri.
