Bengaluru: The Congress party’s campaign in Karnataka ahead of the Lok Sabha election is all set to receive a boost, as former AICC president and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will seek votes for Congress candidate KV Gautham from the Kolar Lok Sabha constituency on April 17.

Rahul will address two rallies on that day, one in Malur and another in Bangarpet. Preparations for the rallies have been taken up under the leadership of Minister Bhairati Suresh, with the party aiming to gather a crowd of at least one lakh for these programs.

So far, the Congress party’s local and state leaders have been seeking votes for their candidates, and no national leaders have campaigned in the state from the grand-old party. On the other hand, BJP’s national leaders including Amit Shah, Dharmendra Pradhan, Smriti Irani, Nirmala Sitharaman, and others have campaigned for BJP candidates, putting Congress at a disadvantage. With Rahul Gandhi hitting the campaign trail, the party cadre’s vigor is expected to increase.

AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge will be in Kalaburgi on April 12, while his son-in-law Radhakrishna Doddamani files his nomination. The veteran Congress leader will address an election rally on the same day organized at NV Grounds in Kalaburgi.

The Lok Sabha elections will be held in two phases in the state, with the south Karnataka districts voting on April 26 and the north Karnataka district voters exercising their rights on May 7
