A team of scuba divers in Chennai recently undertook a distinctive initiative to promote voter awareness in anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The campaign involved six scuba divers descending into the depths of the sea near Neelankarai in Chennai, approximately sixty feet underwater. Their underwater demonstration simulated the voting process, complete with a mock Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and placards bearing messages promoting voting awareness, issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

The placards conveyed messages such as “I understand the significance of my vote” and “My vote, my country.”

One of the divers expressed in a video that their objective was to emphasize the importance of voting as both a civic duty and a fundamental right.

This unique underwater voter awareness initiative was spearheaded by SB Aravind Tharunsri, a Scuba diving instructor and the director of Temple Adventure.

It’s noteworthy that the forthcoming general elections for the 543 Lok Sabha constituencies in India are scheduled to be conducted in seven phases, commencing on April 19 and concluding on June 1. An estimated 97 crore eligible voters are expected to participate in the electoral process.
