After receiving one from a friend, Mumbai-based entrepreneur Vedant Lamba expressed in a post on X how much he detested voice messages on WhatsApp. He shared a screenshot of their WhatsApp chat during the online discussion that his post sparked.

According to the screenshot, Mr. Lamba received a quick voice message from his friend, lasting just two seconds. In response, Vedant wrote that he was at dinner and that he hated voice messages, so please don’t send them to him again.

Sharing the screenshot on X, Mr Lamba asked his followers, “Am I the only one.”

The debate concerning the trade-off between voice notes’ convenience and potential annoyance has been sparked by the widely shared post.

His post went viral after it was shared online and has received over 500,900 views on X. He also included a screenshot of the same exchange with his friend’s response in a different post.

A user wrote, “Voice notes are horrendous. You’re inconveniencing me, possibly making me physically move myself to a different room, or put on earphones, etc. So, I can listen to YOU talk. Just text me, is it really that hard.”

“I hate voice notes. WhatsApp, can you please come up with a voice notes transcription feature? Apple does that in iMessage and with voicemail too. Need it on WhatsApp, too,” another user wrote.

Another internet section said WhatsApp voice notes are “gorgeous”.

“Hold the phone to your ear, like you do on a phone call, and the voice message will be played on the ear speaker,” a user wrote.
